****ATTENTION ALL BALLOU KNIGHTS!***

The Ballou Class of '81 35th Class Reunion Committee would like to send a special "Thank you" to each and every person that took the time to attend our 35th high school reunion at the new Ballou High School! Simply stated, WE HAD A BALL!

For everyone entering the new school for the first time, emotions ran high, some tears fell, and we all smiled with joy!

Everyone enjoyed socializing, the tour of the school, reception hour, dancing to Olde school music, our very own go-go songs, dinner buffet, dancing down the "Soul Train" line, the dessert/candy tables, the memorabilia table, and seeing how our teachers still got it! Ms. Colleen Dykema stayed on the dance floor!

We were TRULY blessed to see 9 Ballou Classes as well as several teachers, friends, and family members attend such a tremendous event! We had a combined 150+ guests attend and again, thank you for your presence!

Words cannot express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for making this reunion our very best!

Thus far, as you can see from the many pictures, again, WE HAD A BALL!

Finally, for everyone that attended the reunion, please make sure we have your email address to receive all of the group class pictures! Our reunion email address is *****@gmail.com.

Again, Thank you!

F.W. Ballou Class of '81 35th Reunion Committee!

P.S. More Pictures will be posted soon!

The Honorable Phil Mendelson
Chairman
Council of the District of Columbia
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suite 504
Washington, DC 20004

RE: Renaming Frank W. Ballou High School

Dear Chairman Mendelson:

Warm greetings to you from the Frank W. Ballou Senior High School Alumni Association ("BAA") Board of Directors; we are contacting you in reference to the recommendation that was presented to you that Frank W. Ballou High School be renamed to honor the former Mayor, Marian S. Barry. No one contacted the BAA regarding this issue; therefore, we were unaware that renaming of our Alma Mater was even an option for consideration.
We have the utmost respect for former Mayor, Marion Barry, and all of his contributions to support the city as Mayor, and then to the Ward 8 community as Councilmember; however, we DO NOT agree with renaming Frank W. Ballou Senior High School. The school has a long, positive, and rich history with over 21,000 proud Alumni that continue to hold strong bonds and memories to Ballou.
As the District's longest serving Mayor, we agree that Mr. Barry should be honored for his service. While he was Mayor, he worked tirelessly for the citizens of the District and his memorial should be reflective of his service and should be a focal point in the city, not just in Ward 8; not by disrupting the student's and alumni's connection to Frank W. Ballou Senior High School, our Alma Mater where education has excelled, friendships have thrived, dreams and relationships developed that continue to flourish 50 years later. We respectfully ask that you leave the legacy of the school intact and NOT rename Ballou, but as an alternative option, honor Mr. Barry in Ward 8 by naming an entity in Ballou, such as, the new media center, theater or the football stadium at Ballou High School after him, in addition to other memorials located elsewhere in the city.
We appreciate your consideration of our request.
Sincerely,

Theresa Thompson
President
Frank W. Ballou High School Alumni Association
Executive Board of Directors
